Several days ago people in solidarity with the Röszke11 and Ahmed H. gathered in front of the Hungarian consulate in Munich to protest the scandalous show trials and to demand freedom of movement.
Appeal process against Ahmed H. in Hungary: 10 years in prison for „Act of terrorism and illegal border crossing“ - The solidarity campaign is calling for his acquittal
On June 15th, at 12pm the process against Ahmed H. will take place at the court of appeal in Szeged , Hungary. Ahmed has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in November 2016. The charges against him: illegal border crossing and „terrorism“. The sentence had created quite a stir across Europe.
Ahmed was arrested on the 16th of September after mass protests on the southern border crossing Röszke. Hungary had closed its border to Serbia the night before. Thousands where suddenly stuck and could no longer flee along the Balkanroute. Ahmed H. had been arbitrarily arrested with ten other refugees (the so-called "Röszke 11"). By massively misusing 'evidences' the Court punished him very harshly for using a megaphone: Whereas the other ten have already completed their imprisonments of 1-3 years and could move on, Ahmed H. as their alleged 'leader' has faced prison reality since September 2015.
In May 2017 the show trials against the Röszke 11 were also condemned by the European Parliament's resolution against Hungary. Hungary's government recently responded by accusing the EU Parliament of supporting terrorism . Other well-known international organizations criticized the judgement sharply . Additionally an employee of the involved translation agency was recently convicted of perjury and sentenced because of manipulating and falsificating the statements of one defendant .
The high prison sentence is part of a Hungarian - but also European-wide - racist discourse against refugees, which serve as potential terrorists that can be targeted anytime by the state and the judiciary. This trial is an example of the extent to which authoritarian governments can use the terrorism discourse to delegitimize and criminalize unwelcome social groups and protest.
We, the solidarity campaign "Free the Röszke 11" , which supports Ahmed H. and the other ten defendants, demand the acquittal and immediate release of Ahmed H. Additionally we demand compensation and the general rehabilitation of the other ten already convicted. Because: Freedom of Movement is not a crime!
The trial takes place on June 15th from 12pm at the Court of Appeal, Szeged. Its address: Szegedi Ítélőtábla, Sóhordó utca 5, Szeged. Attendance requires registration until June 9th 2017: http://szegediitelotabla.birosag.hu/targyalasi-jegyzek/20170601/terrorcselekmeny-es-mas-buncselekmeny-roszken-elozetes. During the appeal trial Ahmed H. is represented by the lawfirm of ex-minister of justice Peter Bárándy http://barandypeter.hu/.
In May 2017 the show trials against the Röszke 11 were also condemned by the European Parliament's resolution against Hungary:
[...] whereas 11 refugees, referred to as the ‘Röszke 11’, present on 16 September 2016, the
day after Hungary closed its border with Serbia, have been charged with committing an
act of terror and sentenced to prison, including Ahmed H., a Syrian resident in Cyprus
sentenced to 10 years in prison in an unfair trial in November 2016 on the sole grounds
of using a megaphone to ease tensions and of throwing three objects at the border
Hungary's government recently responded by accusing the EU Parliament of supporting terrorism.
Daily News Hungary, May 22, 2017:
" [...] During the hearings of those charged with the attempted border offence, one of the accused submitted to the court a two-page document, handwritten in Arabic and professing his innocence, the prosecutor’s office said. The 63-year-old translator charged today was at the time working for the translation agency assigned to the trial. According to the charges, she changed more than half of the original text so that it meant the opposite of the original, in full knowledge of the fact that the document was used as evidence in a court hearing, the prosecutor’s office said. 'Evidence' was manipulated - 'evidence' was produced - 'evidence' was misused!
The consequence needs to be: Acquittal and compensation for all Röszke 11!
Not guilty! We demand Freedom for Ahmed!
The date for the trial against Ahmed at the second instance court is set for Thursday, 15th of June. In November 2016 Ahmed H. was sentenced to 10 years of prison for “terrorism” and “illegal border crossing” in the court of Szeged after a series of extremely biased trial hearings.
Ahmed’s trial and the show-trials against the other Röszke 11, the police violence and the harsh policy changes are supposed to state an example and create an atmosphere of fear. They are part of the Hungarian state’s increasing racist propaganda against all migrants, especially Muslims and part of the European repressive migration policies.
But freedom of movement is not a crime!
We demand Freedom for Ahmed!

Resistance and struggle continues!
Transnational demonstration against the the EU border regime and its actualization in the prisons and the militarized border of Hungary!
April 15th, Röszke/Horgos border crossing
The Hungarian state continues to take an especially visible role in the deathly puzzly of Fortress Europe, guarding capitalist means of production in white hands. As the latest piece in the puzzle on March 15th the state passed legal changes on March 15th which mean that ALL people seeking asylum will be detained in prison-containers at the Hungarian-Serbian border. It also means that the only place to apply for asylum is in the two transit zone-prions at the border, where only 10 people per day can enter. Everybody who enters the country through other parts of the fence -- proud private property of the Hungarian state-- can be pushed back from the whole territory of Hungary to the Serbian side of the fence again.
The push-backs, which are nothing less than legalized state violence, are already happening since the fence was built in September 2015. Day for day people get beaten up, humiliated, attacked with dogs and robbed by the police in their attempts to cross the border. Without even the need for masking, the special unit of the police in charge of this violence is called the border hunter unit. 2 months of ‘training’ are enough to be equipped with weapons and sent to the borders, with the licence to protect white supremacy, at the frontiers of fascist Europe.
NO to the prisons guarding white Europe!
NO to the web of violence and militarized borders!
No to the criminalization of migration!
NO to the legalization and normalization of fascist politics!

Érzékeljük-e ennek a súlyát? Az őrület normalizált.
After invitations from collectives in Zürich, Bern (CH) and Freiburg (GER), activists of the campaign held public infotalks about the cases of Röszke11, the solidarity campaign and the general situation in Hungary.
These pictures show the infotalk in Freiburg, which was part of the local activities related to the International Weeks against Racism.
During the talk an interview was made with H., one of the Röszke11 (who was also presenting on this occasion) and an Hungarian activist (in German only). Listen to the radio report here
